Abstract:

This presentation focuses on the current political climate around trans rights in Denmark, including transgender individuals' access to gender confirmation services. I will discuss how the international rhetoric around trans rights has influenced the current trans rights movement in DK from a feminist, post-modernist, post-structuralist theoretical framework. In considering devices of control and power, I specifically look into the physical and psychological problems that trans* people face after rejection from the “Sexologisk Klink” (Sexology Clinic) through a quantitative survey created in collaboration with LGBT Danmark. With the vast majority of trans folks being rejected from the clinic each year, I ask how we can work to make the landscape around medical intervention more inclusive and accessible. This presentation aims to find a fruitful interplay between theoretical paradigms and empirical investigations.

Everybody is welcome to join us for the talk and the following discussion of the questionnaire, which Molly Occhino & PhD Fellow Lea Skewes. We look forward to hear your opinion.
