In this seminar Phil Davis (Centre for Research into Reading Literature and Society, University of Liverpool) will be showing video clips from "shared reading sessions" and will talk about the analytic methods developed at CRILS to assess break-throughs and awakenings within group reading experiences. This is a demonstration of literature in practice and psychology in action. It will be supplemented by research findings at another level - an update on recent brain-imaging experiments involving a sudden change in the final line of several four-line examples of poetic writing. The emphasis is on creating a world where people are less concerned with the maintenance of set 'norms' and more involoved in the finding of 'reals'.
