This two-day bootcamp approaches co-creation with children from two different perspectives: the researcher’s and the practitioner’s. Day 1 is dedicated to theoretical and methodological aspects of designing co-creative research projects. Day 2 treats practical tools and ethical dimensions when children enter into co-creative processes with private and public sector professionals and it includes hands-on sessions. Together the two days explore the assumption that if adults and children are to enter into co-creative processes as symmetrical partners, strategies to handle the inherent status difference that exists in any child-adult relationship are necessary.

Day 1: Documentation techniques and research methods

Place: Interacting Minds Centre, Aarhus University, Denmark. Time: October 11, 2018, 9 am to 4 pm.

The first leg of the bootcamp explores research methods in projects that co-create with children. The program invites methodological reflection and empirical insights on how to incorporate documentation techniques and playful learning routines into research designs. The speakers all work with the pedagogical principles for early childhood education in Reggio Emilia. It is our hope that the bootcamp will encourage in-depth discussions about different ways of implementing Reggio-inspired techniques into co-creative research. We see the bootcamp as an opportunity to learn new ways to design research that incorporates children’s experiences and attitudes.

Day 2: Children as equal partners in co-creative processes?

Place: Capital of Children Office, Gammelbro 38, 7190 Billund, Denmark Time: October 12, 2018, 10 am to 3 pm.

The second leg of the bootcamp is intended as a hands-on supplement to the academic program of day 1. The aim is to train the participants in techniques and exercises that makes it possible for adults to enter into or to facilitate co-creative processes with children. The speakers explain the principles and pedagogical ideas behind the different techniques.
