12.30-13.30: Keynote lecture

Gary Cross, Penn State University. ”Childhood and Play Miniatures in 20th Century America: Generation, Autonomy and Memor”
Playthings and souvenirs of fantasy/spectacle sites (like theme parks) have been passed down to children as miniatures of adult life. As such they have been messages sent across generations from adult to child. However, these objects have also come to represent breaks in that generational flow as these objects became divorced from parental experience and aspiration. In turn, they have sometimes become collectible tokens of adult memory of their own childhoods, sometimes, but often not, connected with the sensibilities of the currently young. This talk will explore some dimensions of this complex phenomenon in a discussion of the history of toys and theme park souvenirs across the 20th century.

13.30-14.00: Anders V. Munch, University of Southern Denmark. "In and out of scales. Zooming in on children"
