Abstract

Avoiding the false alternatives of conceiving sexual bodily realities in either purely physiological or discursive terms, this talk will illuminate, firstly, how the figure of diffraction is conducive in exploring the ways in which sexualities are dynamic sites in which nature meets culture; and secondly, how diffraction proves advantageous in its capacity to calibrate sexual mores in flux in tracing how these norms unevenly emerge, operate, and are diffractively modulated around particular socio-material configurations, which is illustrated by a case study on the assemblage formations of maternal and midlife female sexualities in contemporary pop culture.
