Project: High precision magnetoencephalography of pain and temperature-related brain signals

Francesca Fardo has been granted 1.673.064 kr. from the Danish Council for Independent Research | Medical Sciences for a Postdoc Research Project (DFF-Individuelt postdocstipendium)

High precision magnetoencephalography of pain and temperature-related brain signals

The project aims at investigating the brain mechanisms underpinning temperature and pain perception. The experimental model is a perceptual illusion, known as the thermal grill illusion of pain, where the application of interlaced cold and warm bars on the skin generates burning sensations. I will investigate the central mechanisms mediating this illusory pain perception using magnetoencephalography (MEG) in combination with head casts, a novel technical development that greatly improves the spatial precision of MEG recordings.
