The Patient in Another World

This is a qualitative-practical project adressing the experience of patients who undergo various degrees and types of disturbed, confused or shifted cognition, in the context of palliative or intensive care. The immediate aim is to develop and clarify concepts for the most important dimensions of these phenomena, and particularly to address their existential “tone” – e.g. suffering, neutrality and euphoria, fear vs trust, isolation vs sense of support or care. The project will be embedded within an existing, larger research program at the Royal Hospital, Copenhagen where the group is already involved in developing care goals, assessment methods and cooperation models in a cross-disciplinary palliative team.
