This talk has two aims: First, I will give an overview of why studying movement and action can be informative for research in the Cognitive Sciences and related fields. I will exemplify this with my own work on joint action, the coordination of multiple people’s actions towards a common goal, and nonverbal communication, and I will also provide examples from other fields to demonstrate the breadth of its potential. Second, I will use the opportunity to introduce the new IMC Motion Lab. Set up earlier this year with funding from it-Vest and located at the IMC, I am currently getting the lab ready to be used for research and teaching purposes. Overall, this talk is an invitation to consider motion capture as a tool to investigate research questions related to cognition, communication, and coordination.
