Abstract
This presentation explores how attuning to rhythm and embodied experience can enrich communication, collaboration and knowledge-making. Stephanie Ellison shares her research and body-based approaches to anthropology, transforming rhythm from just a musical concept into a practical tool for awareness. Viewing rhythm as a multi-modal pattern in space and movement that connects us in relationships, Ellison considers movement as one part of “the art of noticing,” as Anna Tsing suggests for researchers. Through discussions and interactive exercises, this light-hearted session offers embodied ways to hone perceptual awareness—a bit of movement to brighten December days.
About the speaker
Stephanie Ellison is a Guest Researcher at the Interacting Minds Centre, Aarhus University, Denmark. With a master’s degree in dance anthropology from the Erasmus consortium Choreomundus (2023), she studies embodied communication in clinical, institutional, and academic settings. At the IMC, she is exploring a PhD proposal on how embodied awareness of rhythmic structures in clinical medicine can enhance communication, benefiting interactions between doctors, staff, and patients.
