Abstract
People often synchronize actions with others, such as when they play music with friends or dance together. The present IMC talk introduces my research on the behavioural and neural mechanisms that facilitate interpersonal synchrony. Specifically, I will present work that investigates mechanisms of synchrony in the context of group music-making, an ubiquitous form of synchrony that requires high levels of temporal coordination between partners. This work highlights the critical role of rhythm in moderating not only how well partners synchronize but also the dynamics of synchronization.
