Amos Blanton, PhD Student

New face at IMC

From 10th March 2020 Amos Blanton is a new PhD student at IMC.

Project title: Experimenting, Experiencing, Reflecting: Collective Creativity in the Library.
Professor Andreas Roepstorff is principal supervisor.

Amos Blanton holds MA and EdS. degrees in Counseling Psychology and has worked as a family therapist, online community manager, and airship groundcrewman. Since 2009 Amos' has been developing communities, activities, and environments that support creativity and self-expression through various forms of tinkering with technology. Prior to moving to Denmark in 2015 to work on the design of LEGO House play experiences, he led the team that developed and ran the Scratch Online community at MIT Media Lab's Lifelong Kindergarten Group. He has a wife and two young sons.

Amos' PhD research is on strategies for supporting collective creativity, and is done in partnership with the library Dokk1 and the Experimenting, Experiencing, Reflecting project, itself a collaboration between IMC and Studio Olafur Eliasson funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. The research will involve setting up invitations for people to tinker and build together, and strategies for documenting what emerges and sharing it forward to future participants, all with the goal of supporting contagious inspiration in libraries and art museums.

If you like to talk about creativity and learning, tinkering, aesthetics, the anthropology of playfulness, or complexity please reach out and we’ll set up a time to chat.
