Experimenting, Experienting, Reflecting – Art and science at work in the public realm
In June 2018 IMC held a workshop at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin.
Outcomes
Videos from the workshop have been released - see them here.
The framework
Today we are witnessing deep crises in trust and social cohesion. What information is trustworthy? How do our perceptions and emotions contribute to what we think and how we act? How do we make sense of, navigate, and participate in society? Environmental and political challenges abound, and these can only be solved through collaboration and innovation – both technological and social. This calls for new forms of thinking and acting.
In response to this challenge, we propose developing a strong dialogue between the arts and the sciences that takes experimentation and embodied engagement as its starting points. We aim to create a platform for experimentation with public access to create a unique, shared space for personal reflection with global reach. This approach may also provide culturally differentiated knowledge about human experiences and actions around the world.
The workshop
To initiate the exploration above, we have organised a workshop at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, 27-28 June. The workshop brings together a highly select group of researchers, artists, and institutions. We will spend our time together undertaking various experiments revolving around perspective-taking, uncertainty, coordinated action, and sense of trust, reflecting on our experiences and sketching out ideas for further steps and actions within the overall framework.
The workshop is organised in collaboration between The Interacting Minds Centre at Aarhus University and Studio Ofafur Eliasson, Berlin.
