I am Yngwie Asbjørn Nielsen, a new PhD student at the Department of Linguistics, Cognitive Science and Semiotics. My project explores how we adapt to each other during conversation—for instance, by settling on specific labels for objects or creatively repurposing each other's linguistic constructions. I aim to better understand how interlocutors converge on efficient ways of communicating, while also diverging when necessary to steer the conversation in a productive direction.
